I’ve been noticing these random, throwaway accounts popping up and pushing something called “Deepseek” all over Reddit lately. They talk about it like it’s the second coming of AI or something, but if you dig a bit deeper, it’s basically a closed-source, heavily censored tool that refuses to acknowledge anything remotely critical of China. It won’t even engage in a normal conversation about current events or human rights when it comes to China—it just skirts around the topic or flat-out censors it. And honestly, it’s nowhere near as good as o1 or other open solutions that at least try to address all kinds of questions.
What really gets me is how these accounts act like Deepseek is shattering every benchmark with 99% accuracy, but then they never share any actual proof. It’s all their own “internal” tests, which magically confirm how amazing they claim the model is. No outside reviewers, no transparency, nothing. They want us to take their word for it—while also conveniently ignoring or hiding any negative press about the product itself or about what’s going on in China.
I’ve seen these spammy posts in multiple subreddits, and they’re always so over the top in praising Deepseek: “It’s the future!” “It changes everything!” But they never address the elephant in the room: Why is it so secretive, and why does it shut down the conversation whenever someone points out issues like censorship? It’s especially disturbing because it lines up perfectly with the kind of official narrative you’d expect from certain state-sponsored propaganda.
If you come across these posts, keep an eye out. Ask for proof. Ask for specifics about their data, their testing methods, and their willingness to let outsiders verify anything. Chances are you’ll see them dodge every question or respond with more marketing fluff. Meanwhile, the rest of the AI community is actually trying to foster open discussion, share code, and get real, peer-reviewed credibility. Don’t just swallow the Deepseek hype—call it out for what it is: another shady propaganda push that’s getting spammed across Reddit in a blatant attempt to shape the narrative.
