I’m not a technical expert or anything, so just sharing my opinion. So many people post things like “I asked DeepSeek about Taiwanese independence” and the like, and present it as some kind of threat to humanity (exaggerating here but honestly, it does seem that way sometimes). Yeah, censorship isn’t great and pro-party propaganda sucks but I don’t think it’s the only reason why everyone is so outraged. Don’t get me started on Musk being besties with Trump and Zuck unrestricting hate speech, but American public complaining about DeepSeek being politically biased is so hypocritical. And those character ai cases where a kid killed himself, and another one was advised to kill his parents? Perhaps the US companies could even learn a thing or two about guardrails from DeepSeek.
To make things clear, I don’t support CCP (though not a fan of capitalism either). What I’m saying is that such criticism of DeepSeek isn’t just about the model’s performance. It’s about the US tech dominance being compromised (and by China at that!) and Americans not being so happy about it. The facts they point out are true, but the way they point them out is not very objective.
Happy to discuss!
